Based on the IEEE 802.11b standards, D-Link’s three high-speed 11 Megabit wireless adapters, the DWL-500 PCI adapter for desktops, the DWL-650 PC Card adapter for laptop PCs, and the DWL-120 for desktops or laptops with USB support, are now priced at $139, $99, and $129, respectively. With the DWL-1000AP Access Point price being cut in half, to $199, extending the power of your 11Mb wireless network is more affordable.
“This D-Link Air Wireless product line has been very successful,” said Steven Joe, President of D-Link "Economy of scale allows us to significantly drop the prices across the wireless line, which creates a more affordable product for consumers.”
DWL-120, DWL-500 & DWL-650 Adapters
The D-Link Air DWL-120, DWL-500 and DWL-650 can be connected in either a peer-to-peer environment (Ad Hoc) or in conjunction with the DWL-100AP access point (Infrastructure Mode) to extend the reach and speed of the wireless LAN (WLAN). All of the D-Link Air network adapters have full mobility and seamless roaming from access point to access point. The range of coverage per cell for indoor use is up to 100 meters and up to 300 meters per cell for outdoor use.
D-Links entire line of wireless network adapters complies with the IEEE 802.11b 11Mb wireless standards, as well being compliant with all other pertinent standards. The DWL-500 is an internal PCI to PCMCIA Bridge for Desktop PCs that comes packaged with a DWL-650. The DWL-650 is a PCMCIA Type-II 11Mbps wireless network adapter for Laptop computers. The DWL-120 is an external USB 2.0 compliant network adapter with an adjustable antenna that is compatible with any PC that has USB support. D-Link Air wireless adapters operate in 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) for wireless network environments. The DWL-120, DWL-500 and the DWL-650 are designed to operate in either 3.3V or 5.0V DC. In addition, the wireless adapters can be set to use a 128-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) Encryption for a secured network connection.
The D-Link Air Wireless network adapters operate in either Ad-Hoc mode (Peer-to-Peer networking without access point) or Infrastructure mode (Peer-to-Peer networking using an access point). The D-Link wireless network adapters transmit rate values can be manually selected for Auto Select 1 or 2 Mbps, Fixed 1 Mbps, Fixed 11 Mbps, Fixed 2 Mbps, Fixed 5.5 Mbps and Fully Auto.
The D-Link DWL-650 and DWL-500 have an internal non-detachable diversity patch antenna and a LED indicator for power, network link and activity. The DWL-120 includes an external non-detachable dipole antenna and two diagnostic LEDs. All of the D-Link Air adapters are compatible with Windows 95 OSR2, 98, ME, 2000, NT 4.0 and other popular operating systems.
DWL-1000AP Wireless Access Point
The D-Link DWL-1000AP is an 11 Mb IEEE 802.11b compliant wireless Ethernet Access Point. The DWL-1000AP is essentially a bridge between wired and wireless network segments. Once connected the Access Point acts as a signal booster for the WLAN. This increases the strength of the signal, which gives greater speeds and longer reach on the wireless network. The D-Link DWL-1000AP access point operates in the 2.4GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) for wireless networks. When multiple access points are used, users can roam from cell to cell, without an interruption in their connection.
The D-Link DWL-1000AP provides an access point connection that creates an Infrastructure for the network or extends the reach of the network communications capability. The range of coverage per cell for indoor use is up to 100 meters and up to 300 meter per cell for outdoor use. As an Ethernet-to-Wireless Bridge, the DWL-1000AP can be directly connected to a broadband residential gateway or a DSL/Cable Modem to provide high-speed wireless Internet access. When the DWL-1000AP is connected to a DHCP Server the access point will automatically obtain an IP address and hand out IP address to all wireless adapters within range. The DWL-1000AP bandwidth data transmission rate can be set manually at 11Mbps, 5.5Mbps, 2Mbps, 1Mbps or it can be set on dynamic auto-sensing configuration.
